120 Days – '120 Days' review
So rarely do you hear an album this easy to dissect. Here we have: early Verve vocals, Vanishing Point-era Primal Scream beats, early Chemical Brothers samplers, Kevin Shields knob-twiddling and flurries of Pure Phase-era Spiritualized drone. Nothing more, nothing less. Across 60 minutes we’re offered nine iterations of these ingredients, all of which are above average but ultimately unengaging. It’s odd to describe a record this dense and sprawling as standard fare, but, given its total transparency, that’s what 120 Days is.
