Free Kitten – 'Inherit' review
Like a Pollock painting, you’d be forgiven for thinking on first glance that Inherit had been made by a five-year-old if you were unaware of its creator – in this case Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. But with the benefit of the doubt that its author’s name demands, and a bit of effort, Inherit rises above the initial mess of no-fi feedback and sloppy playing and becomes hypnotic, aggressively tribal and, on the brilliantly odd Help Me, genuinely witty. More a fascinating than enjoyable listen, Inherit’s sheer bloody-mindedness is quite enough to justify its existence.
