Maximo Park – 'Twelve EP' review
Twelve sees Maximo Park exploit their dance label employers and get a bunch of electronic types to fiddle with their songs. Hitherto, such gimmickry has been unnecessary, but this year’s Quicken The Heart was so shorn of ideas that this might’ve have been just the tonic. Alas, not so: of the four tracks on 12, three are remixes of Let’s Get Clinical, one of QTH’s more attention-grabbing moments that add little more than wobbly house (Tom Middleton’s Twisted edit) wonky synths (Clark’s remix) and dark techno stylings (Hijacker’s mix). The remaining cut is a reworking of Cloud of Mystery, which, while interesting, hardly justifies the existence of Twelve. One for the collectionists only, this.
