Mother And The Addicts – 'Science Fiction Illustrated' review

Published on

Plenty of able musicians have proved that you needn’t be original to make great pop music – just pick a genre, and pilfer. Continuing this tradition, Mother and The Addicts have selected 80s new wave as their chosen specialised subject, and caps are dutifully doffed towards The Fall, Style Council, Joy Division and, most often, The Stranglers. However, they’re clearly keen to be taken seriously, and their rampant borrowing rather undermines this desire, leaving an enjoyable but ultimately hollow LP.
