Pacific! – 'Reveries' review

Published on

As far as Euro-kitsch chill-out albums swathed in 80s synths go, Reveries is pretty bog-standard, unremarkable stuff, performed, one imagines, with an eyebrow firmly arched throughout. But when the emphasis is on the songwriting rather than irony, things improve dramatically: Hot Lips has a seductive, come-hither swagger not a million miles from ABC’s Poison Arrow, and Love Isn’t Always On Time recalls the seedily glamorous, sunset feel that made Groove Armada’s At The River such a hit. Unfortunately there aren’t quite enough goodies to excuse the surrounding dross, but still there’s plenty to love.
