Tunng – 'Good Arrows' review

Published on

How to make Good Arrows: put Kieran Hebden and Gruff Rhys in a studio, replace all Hebden’s bleeping gizmos with homemade percussion, encourage Rhys’ psychedelic streak and, when they’ve written an album of Beatles-tinged folktronica, hire Nick Drake, the Beta Band and Elbow to play and sing while Matthew Herbert twiddles knobs. The result? An intelligent, charming and wonderfully organic record that pulls off the impressive balancing act of being experimental, tuneful and devoid of smugness. Wholesome, rewarding stuff.
